SwitchMed partners are working on strengthening policy frameworks to enable the transition towards Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) patterns and a circular economy in the Mediterranean.
Under SwitchMed, the United Nations Environment Programme / Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP) and MedWaves, its regional activity centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production (formerly known as SCP/RAC) work at the regional level to further embed SCP and circular economy approaches within the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and Coastal Region of the Mediterranean.
UNEP supports the monitoring and implementation of SCP-NAP activities at the national level.
Actions implemented during SwitchMed II will build on the policy outputs of phase I: the Regional Action Plan on SCP in the Mediterranean adopted at COP19 of the Barcelona Convention and the eight SCP National Action Plans.
UNEP supports the countries through: (i) SCP-NAP implementation progress monitoring and (ii) concrete nationally owned projects at country level. Each national process will be country-driven and tailored around national priorities and responses to the international agendas (SDG, UNEA, Paris agreement)
