Palestine

In Palestine, the need for local expertise that can assist businesses to become more resource efficient within their production is mounting. Rising costs for energy, raw materials and water has caused production costs for Palestinian businesses, which limits their ability to compete at local and international markets with their products.

From 2015-2017, the MED TEST II project in Palestine demonstrated in the food industry sector the saving potential of a resource-efficient production.

MED TEST III project

The scope of the MED TEST III project in Palestine will consolidate and accelerate the uptake of RECP among local businesses. To achieve this, the existing gap of local qualified expertise that can offer assistance on how to improve the resource efficiency of businesses needs to be addressed. UNIDO will continue to build local qualified expertise that can offer qualified services to Palestinian businesses in becoming more resource-efficient and develop a platform for knowledge sharing that can promote the adoption of resource efficiency in Palestine.

Objectives of the MED TEST III project in Palestine will:

– Reinforce the national capacities of local service providers to secure the required need of RECP services from the industry. 10 new service providers are to be trained.

Demonstrate the business case of resource efficiency, as part of the on the job training of service providers. This will consist of the identification and implementation of sustainable production practices and technologies, and broaden the demonstration of the business case of RECP from the food industry to at least one other industrial sector identified based on the interest of companies, the potential for scaling up and the regional focus of SwitchMed.

Link local policymakers to the project’s activities, including the training of government officials, sharing information and providing recommendations for implementing and developing the National Roadmap for resource efficiency.

Mainstream RECP into national curriculums for academia and vocational training centers to support the development of a national stakeholder platform for knowledge sharing and further uptake of resource efficiency in Palestine.
