As previously announced, early this year MedWaves, the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre for SCP (former SCP/RAC), made available the cartographic data corresponding to the 30 Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) factsheets in MapX, the UNEP digital platform for geographic data sharing.
In the past months, MedWaves has been working with Plan Bleu, coordinator of the Mediterranean Observatory on Environment and Sustainable Development, to include new interactive features in some of the maps, which give users more information about the progress made by each country.
For example, the indicator “Water productivity” now includes a time slider that shows the changes in the use of water in each Mediterranean country by year, from 2005 to 2017. And if the user clicks in a given country, they can see specific data for each year, allowing them to easily track progress made. Similarly, some maps now include a bar graph showing data of all countries in one table, allowing for easier comparison among them.
MedWaves will continue collaborating with Plan Bleu and UNEP/GRID to add new functionalities to the platform that will allow data providers to update these maps in a simple way, so in 2023 we will have the latest data available updated into the platform.
We will soon prepare a tutorial on how to make the most out of this interactive platform, so we invite you to stay tuned to SwitchMed social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
